220-Unit Residential Building And Harris Teeter Planned For Georgia Avenue
Rendering of 7820 Eastern Avenue NW.
DC’s Harris Teeter boom continues.
A recently proposed project at the intersection of Georgia Avenue, Eastern Avenue and Kalmia Road (map) would bring 220 residential units and a Harris Teeter grocery store to the area just south of Silver Spring.
Though neither project is final yet, Harris Teeters could also be a potential part of both the McMillan Redevelopment project and 965 Florida Avenue NW.
ANC 4A Commissioner Dwayne Toliver told UrbanTurf that the project developer is Douglas Development. Douglas has submitted a Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the project, and is in the process of soliciting community feedback. (There will be a meeting at 7pm on Wednesday night at 7820 Eastern Avenue NW to discuss the project.) An underground parking lot will accommodate Harris Teeter patrons and residents, and they are planning an outdoor seating area, presumably for those grabbing a meal at the market.
Right now, construction is estimated to start in January 2015; the Harris Teeter would open by the Fall of 2016. No word on if the units would be condos or rentals.
